One Dim Sum

“Very good dim sum. The highlight was the har gao which is my test for a dim sum restaurant. Shrimp pieces were large so that the filling retains the texture of shrimp. I don’t trust restaurants that use finely minced filling that suggest scraps have been used. The chicken siu mai was good too. Not rubbery and overcooked as siu mai sometimes can be. Stuffed aubergine was deep fried rather than the pan fried cantonese version I am used to. I am always happy to see dim wrapped in tofu skins on a menu, as these are unusual. However the steamed parcels with carrot, chicken and shitake were disappointingly bland. I am more accustomed to the fried tofu skins rolls. I was sorry to see too late that my favourite xiao long bao (broth filled Shanghai dumplings) were offered. They were hidden in the steamed bun section instead of the steamed dumpling section of the menu. Atmosphere is modern and airy. On a Friday at lunchtime most of the clientele were Asian ladies who lunch. There was light jazz playing, accompanied by the sound of giggling, well dressed ladies.”
